Payments giant Stripe has agreed to acquire OpenRouter, the gateway for routing AI models, for more than approximately $700 million, consolidating access to external AI models. OpenRouter can route requests to more than 400 AI models.
Stripe has agreed to acquire OpenRouter, with the price reportedly exceeding $7 billion. By bringing OpenRouter into the company, Stripe aims to consolidate AI processing in the payments sector through a single gateway.
OpenRouter currently has approximately 8 million users, who can connect to more than 400 AI models through its interface. Developers can use multiple models by connecting only to the interface provided by the router.
Alex Atallah (アレックス・アタラ), OpenRouter's head of design and CEO, said in May that the company aimed to become the Stripe of AI. Stripe will expand this vision by strengthening the infrastructure for real-world transactions.
