Zeon Corporation held a groundbreaking ceremony at its Tokuyama Plant for a new facility to mass-produce single-wall carbon nanotubes, a material used in lithium-ion batteries, and disclosed plans to introduce a proprietary process that will increase production capacity dozens-fold.
Chemical manufacturer Zeon Corporation held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 25th at its Tokuyama Plant in Shunan, Yamaguchi Prefecture, for a new facility capable of mass-producing single-wall carbon nanotubes, a material used in lithium-ion batteries. The facility will be a two-story building with approximately 2,000 square meters of floor space. Although it will be comparable in scale to the existing plant, the introduction of a proprietary process is expected to increase production capacity dozens-fold.
Completion of the new plant is targeted for February 2028, with production scheduled to begin within the same year. Approximately 45 people, including President Toyoshima Tetsuya (豊嶋 哲也), attended the groundbreaking ceremony, where a ground-blessing ritual was held to pray for safety. President Toyoshima said he was determined to make the material available at a lower cost through improved productivity and deliver it from Tokuyama to markets around the world.
