The Nikkei 225 rose ¥405.73 from the previous day to ¥66,262.16 in Tokyo trading on 26 August, marking its second consecutive advance. More than 60% of stocks on the TSE Prime Market rose, while the TOPIX gained 417.35 points to 4,111.02.
The market fell in morning trading as investors sold semiconductor-related stocks ahead of earnings from US semiconductor giant NVIDIA. Buying back into the market then spread, sending the Nikkei 225 higher. Lower crude oil futures prices also encouraged investors to buy.
Across the market, gains were particularly notable in securities, insurance and pharmaceutical stocks, reportedly against a backdrop of rising expectations for easing tensions in the Middle East.
