The first part of an interview with Resonac Holdings Corporation President and Representative Director Takahashi Hidehito (髙橋秀仁). He discusses the path he followed to compete globally with Japanese technology and the choices he made in the US M&A market.
From childhood, Takahashi Hidehito (髙橋秀仁) associated the world with “America.” While enrolled at the University of Tokyo, he studied at Columbia University, and he recalls that experiencing the rigors of Wall Street firsthand led him to think, “I want to compete here.”
After graduating from university, he joined the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi and earned an MBA in the US. He was seconded to a US M&A specialist firm, where he handled the sale of US companies acquired by Japanese companies during the bubble era.
He developed the desire to manage Japanese companies with outstanding technology and compete globally. After working at US- and UK-affiliated companies and others, he joined Showa Denko in 2015. He decided to acquire Hitachi Chemical, setting the course that led to the current Resonac.
The feature looks back through a long-form interview on this journey and on his determination to move forward without fearing change.
