An analysis examines how the Bank of Japan’s policy rate hike and the continued weakness of the yen could affect Advantest’s financing costs, revenue growth outlook and plans to expand production capacity. The main focus is on the production capacity expansion planned through the end of 2026 and the 2029 earnings outlook.
The Bank of Japan has raised its policy rate to 1.25%, while the yen remains weak. As a result, financing costs and foreign exchange movements could affect companies’ investment thesis.
Advantest has outlined plans to expand production capacity centered on testers for AI-related applications and advanced nodes, with production capacity expected to increase by 60–70% by 2026. At the same time, demand brought forward and a period of demand adjustment in the second half of fiscal 2025 could affect actual results.
Analyst forecasts project revenue of ¥234.77 billion and profit of ¥838 billion by 2029, implying approximately 20% upside from the current share price. However, this upside could narrow if market expectations are revised.
Some views also identify foreign exchange risk as a factor, and the optimistic revenue and profit forecasts through 2029 may be revised because they were issued before changes in interest rates and foreign exchange conditions. An alternative fair value estimate points to potential share price upside of as much as 31%.
