In the Tokyo stock market, the Nikkei 225's loss widened to more than ¥800 at around 10:15 a.m. Profit-taking selling spread among some large-cap semiconductor-related stocks, sending Tokyo Electron, Kioxia Holdings and Advantest lower.
In the morning session of the Tokyo stock market, the Nikkei 225 opened down ¥374.25 from the previous day at ¥64,768.53 and remained under selling pressure thereafter. Investor caution heightened ahead of the release of U.S. inflation data, and losses widened as declines in major stocks weighed on the index. The TOPIX also remained weak, with the number of declining stocks increasing across the Prime Market.
Among individual stocks, large-cap semiconductor-related stocks including Tokyo Electron, Kioxia Holdings and Advantest turned lower, with reports that profit-taking selling had spread. Some semiconductor stocks led the decline, driving the broader market lower, according to market observers.
In exchange-related developments, the Nikkei 225 was at times down more than ¥800 as of the 9th, while the Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) also remained sluggish. The proportion of declining stocks remained high across the market.
The move was attributed to cautious trading ahead of the release of U.S. economic indicators, and some market views held that upside momentum would remain limited unless new catalysts emerged.
