Zeon Corporation held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 25th for a new single-wall carbon nanotube plant at its Tokuyama Plant in Shunan. Total project costs are approximately ¥14.7 billion, and the company aims to begin full-scale operations during 2028.
Zeon Corporation held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new single-wall carbon nanotube plant at its Tokuyama Plant in Shunan, attended by approximately 50 people involved in the project. President Toyoshima Tetsuya (豊嶋 哲也) performed the ceremonial first cut into the ground and prayed for safety.
Demand for single-wall carbon nanotubes is increasing as a material that improves the energy density, performance and service life of batteries, and the material is expected to be used in a wide range of applications, including electric vehicles. In 2015, Zeon Corporation became the first company in the world to establish mass-production technology for the material.
The total project cost for construction of the new plant is approximately ¥14.7 billion, and production capacity is expected to increase several dozenfold from current levels. Construction is scheduled to begin on 1 September next month, with full-scale operations targeted during 2028.
