IBM of the United States announced that it has launched a strategic collaboration with OpenAI, with the aim of delivering business results through the large-scale deployment of AI across companies’ core operations and complex workflows. The collaboration will also support stronger cyber defense and resilience through programs including OpenAI Daybreak.
The collaboration includes joint go-to-market initiatives, as well as the development of industry-specific solutions for financial services, government, telecommunications and retail, and solutions for key business functions including finance, procurement, customer service and human resources. The three focus areas are transforming legacy operations into AI-enabled workflows, modernizing applications and product development, and cybersecurity and AI risk management.
Specifically, OpenAI’s frontier models, including GPT-5.6, along with Codex and ChatGPT Work, will be embedded into IBM Consulting Advantage to support the analysis of business processes and workflows, the identification of inefficiencies, and AI-enabled automation and efficiency gains. In modernization and development, the companies aim to simplify engineering processes and accelerate the delivery of new products and services.
In cybersecurity, the collaboration with the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program will be expanded, combining OpenAI’s frontier capabilities with IBM Autonomous Security to manage vulnerabilities and risks associated with AI adoption. The companies will also accelerate adoption in highly regulated environments by joining the Elite partner tier, rolling out FDU through the OpenAI Partner Network, and establishing an OpenAI Practice to work directly with customers.
