American Express has unveiled Japan’s first Platinum Card and Business Card featuring a mirror-effect design, available for a limited time. The annual fee is ¥165,000 and the issuance fee is ¥7,700, with applications accepted from 30 September 2026 to 1 February 2027.
American Express has announced the “mirror-effect design,” a limited-time design for its Platinum Card and Business Card, and showcased the physical cards at an event. The design, which was introduced in the United States last September, is notable for being rolled out in Japan for the first time.
Depending on the viewing angle, the mirror-effect design makes the logo appear to float and reflects its surroundings like a mirror. The design concept is “No Two Glows Are Ever the Same,” and according to American Express, it is being introduced in Japan for the first time.
The annual fee for this design is ¥165,000, and the issuance fee is ¥7,700. Applications will be accepted for a limited period from 30 September to 1 February 2027. Members who already hold a Platinum Card or Business Card can apply during the period to switch to the mirror-effect design.
The fact that the mirror-effect design is being introduced in Japan for the first time has been emphasised, and its rollout could affect whether the design continues to be offered and how it is made available in the future.
