Iran said the United States should not unilaterally advance the negotiations, adding that such an approach would not work in Tehran as tensions between the two countries rise.
At a press conference in Jakarta, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said it was wrong for the United States to unilaterally dictate the negotiations and that such an approach would not succeed with Iran.
Baghaei accused the United States of "acting in bad faith" and argued that its approach toward Iran was creating confusion. He also said the United States was making a strategic mistake.
He further referred to the recent US attack on Shalk Island, saying that Washington was repeating actions regarded as aggression against Iran.
Baghaei cited US involvement in the Islamabad memorandum and indicated that Iran intended to consider its next steps regarding a series of developments surrounding a memorandum reportedly bearing the US president's signature.
Iran, meanwhile, stressed that it would use every available option, including diplomatic means where necessary, to protect its interests, and indicated that it would continue its dialogue.
