Tokyo stocks edged lower for a second straight session, with the decline from the previous day limited as some AI-related and semiconductor stocks were sold.
The Nikkei 225 closed at ¥63,484.10, down ¥8.89 from the previous day, marking its third consecutive decline. TOPIX fell 21.05 points to 4037.16 as a strong wait-and-see mood prevailed amid growing caution across the market.
Some AI and semiconductor stocks were sold amid speculation over the slow pace of AI development. Rising crude oil prices and interest rates also weighed on the market.
Meanwhile, SoftBank Group, which had fallen more than 10% the previous day, rebounded sharply and supported the stock indexes. By stock count, 44% declined and 52% advanced.
Trading volume was 1.88588 billion shares, with trading value at ¥7.4384 trillion. By industry, banks, oil and coal products, and marine transportation declined, while information and communications, pharmaceuticals, and services advanced.
