Visa has launched its first nationwide campaign to expand the use of contactless payments on public transportation. Running from 1 May 2026 through 31 May 2026, the campaign covers 46 railway operators nationwide and offers cashback of 30% of the fare, up to ¥600. Payments by card and wearable device are also eligible.
Visa will run the “Visa Discount Campaign: On the Train, Too! Tap to Save!” nationwide from 1 May through 31 May 2026. This will expand its previously region-limited transportation initiative and become its first nationwide campaign to promote contactless payments for transit.
During the campaign, customers who use a Visa card registered for the Visa Discount program for Visa contactless payments at stations operated by participating railway operators will receive cashback equal to 30% of the fare. Cashback is capped at ¥600 per card during the campaign period.
Eligible payment methods include not only Visa cards but also smartphones and wearable devices such as smartwatches. A range of marketing initiatives will be rolled out alongside the nationwide campaign.
To mark the launch of Tokyo Metro’s contactless transit service, Visa will place vehicle wraps on Marunouchi Line and Ginza Line trains and advertisements inside Nagatacho Station to raise awareness.
