GSアライアンス opened a battery lab at Swiss Innovation Park Biel/Bienne in Switzerland's Canton of Bern and received a grant from Innosuisse. Operations are scheduled to begin on 1 October 2026.
GSアライアンス株式会社 established a battery lab within Swiss Innovation Park Biel/Bienne and will begin operations to promote the development of recycled lithium-ion batteries on 1 October 2026. It also received a grant from Innosuisse, the Swiss government's innovation promotion agency.
At its Swiss base, the company is advancing toward the practical application and commercialisation of technology for producing recycled lithium-ion batteries using a direct-recycling method developed by the company's representative, Dr Mori Ryohei (森良平), that directly regenerates cathode material from black mass powder. The method has demonstrated successful results using both ternary (NMC-based) and lithium iron phosphate (LFP-based) black mass.
The company has also succeeded in recovering graphite derived from waste as an anode material for recycled batteries and synthesising recycled graphite comparable to commercial products. Building on these results, it will accelerate research and development and commercialisation in Europe from its Swiss base.
Going forward, as a Japanese company, GSアライアンス株式会社 will use its selection for an Innosuisse grant to promote joint research and development with companies, startups and universities through the SIPBB network, with the aim of furthering research and development and expanding its black mass battery business in continental Europe.
