A shift in the yen exchange rate was discussed on a radio program broadcast on 7 September, with an economic commentator saying that forecasting it was difficult. The program also covered an audiobook program's introduction of works by Ariyoshi Sawako (有吉佐和子).
On the radio program “Good Morning, Terachan” broadcast on 7 September, announcer Terashima Naomasa (寺島尚正) and economic commentator Junen Tsukasa (上念司) exchanged views on the foreign exchange market, drawing attention to a potential shift in the yen exchange rate.
The program discussed the yen's rise of approximately ¥5 against the dollar over the 3 days from the 2nd to the 4th, against the backdrop of speculation surrounding efforts by Japan and the United States to correct yen weakness. It was said to be currently trading at around ¥155.98 to the dollar. The program also presented the view that a change in the prolonged period of yen weakness was attracting attention.
Junen Tsukasa (上念司) said that it was impossible to forecast the future of foreign exchange markets, explaining that multiple factors are intertwined and that even if one factor could be predicted accurately, other factors would move, making the market difficult to understand. A cautious stance was also expressed regarding debate over whether the yen's decline had come to an end.
In another segment, it was announced that Ariyoshi Sawako's (有吉佐和子) work “まっしろけのけ” would be introduced on Radio Nippon's audiobook program as part of a discussion of her renewed popularity through “A Blue Pot” (青い壺). The program is scheduled to air over 3 weeks in September.
