Mattermost will begin offering Mattermost SME, a secure collaboration platform, on the domestic sovereign cloud platform Oracle Alloy under NRI's control. Operations are intended for the Japanese market, with data sovereignty as a fundamental requirement.
Mattermost Japan announced that it will begin initiatives to offer Mattermost's secure collaboration platform, Mattermost Sovereign Mission Environment (SME), on Oracle Alloy operated by Nomura Research Institute (NRI) at data centers in Japan. With the cooperation of Oracle Japan, the company aims to combine the platform with AI capabilities in an environment that meets requirements for domestic data management and operational control.
Against a backdrop of rising geopolitical risks and growing demands to ensure data sovereignty, demand in Japan is increasing for sovereign cloud and AI platforms, particularly in the defense, financial services, public sector, manufacturing and critical infrastructure sectors. NRI was the first company in Japan to put Oracle Alloy into operation and has established a structure for operating OCI's AI and cloud services under its own control.
The initiative is intended to enable the use of AI in a domestically controlled environment while providing integrated support for financial controls, economic security and digital transformation in the defense sector. By combining operations and security, Mattermost's track record of use by organizations, including those in the public and national security sectors, will be offered in a format confined to data centers in Japan.
Going forward, the companies will consider expanding the initiative in stages, including the provision of SME's AI agent capabilities, integration with AI platforms for financial institutions, development of air-gapped environments, deployment of security support and DevSecOps solutions for critical infrastructure, and certification of domestic partners.
