The model and hobby market continues to expand. According to data from the Japan Toy Association, Japan's domestic hobby market grew from ¥174.843 billion in fiscal 2023 to ¥184.458 billion in fiscal 2024, an increase of 5.5%. The market is expected to grow by a further ¥11.5 billion to ¥196 billion in fiscal 2025, with all subcategories, including plastic models, exceeding the previous fiscal year's levels.
Events scheduled for the public days include the beginner-oriented Plastic Model Experience Workshop and Treasure Hunt! Junk Market 2026. Admission is ¥1,100 in advance or ¥1,500 on the day, while junior high school students and younger children enter free of charge. In addition to the exhibits, a keyword stamp rally and a traditional festival-style fair are also planned.
The growth of Gunpla has been cited as a factor contributing to the expansion of the hobby market, while growing demand from adults and inbound visitors has also been highlighted as a driver of the overall toy market.
