Household electricity rates in the Tokyo Electric Power service area are expected to hit a record high for November usage, with the end of government subsidies accelerating the increase.
The 10 major electric utilities have reported that rates for October usage rose by more than in the previous month, reaching record-high levels.
Under the household rate model published by TEPCO Energy Partner, the charge for November usage is expected to be approximately ¥9,738, up ¥177 from the previous month, with a significant increase also expected year on year.
The end of government subsidies is affecting price increases from October usage onward. Once the subsidies for July to September are excluded, the monthly discount will disappear, increasing the burden on households.
The government has begun considering subsidies for the winter, but household costs after the subsidies end are expected to remain a focus going forward.
