Mitsubishi Electric Digital Innovation will launch Rulerless Truck™, a service that scans truck beds with a smartphone equipped with a LiDAR scanner to measure loading rates and shares the data through the cloud, on 1 October 2026.
The launch date of Rulerless Truck™, a new service for measuring truck-bed loading rates, was formally announced as 1 October 2026. The service enables shippers and logistics operators to collect loading data that can be shared at the worksite.
The service uses a smartphone equipped with a LiDAR scanner to create 3D models of the cargo area and its contents and calculate the loading rate. Measurement results are stored in the cloud, allowing comparisons by period and cross-checking against other data through CSV export, making it easier to share worksite measurement results across an organization.
The company says its proprietary algorithm can calculate loading rates with an error of no more than 5% in a test environment. It has also obtained patents and aims to establish a common basis for using loading-rate data between shippers and logistics operators.
The service is also scheduled to support aggregation by route and period, expanding opportunities to consider measures such as joint freight transport, revisions to operating plans and improvements to cargo configurations. A paid trial at KUBOTA CORPORATION verified the service's effectiveness in an actual operating environment.
