Riken Vitamin and Puchi Puchi have jointly developed a masterbatch made with recycled materials. The masterbatch is scheduled to be adopted for some Puchi Puchi products from April 2026.
Riken Vitamin has jointly developed with Puchi Puchi a masterbatch containing high concentrations of functional additives, such as antistatic agents. The resulting product is scheduled to be used from April 2026 in some Puchi Puchi bubble wrap products.
A masterbatch is a pelletized modifier in which functional additives are compounded at high concentrations so that they can be readily mixed into plastic. This enables processing in the same form as general-purpose raw materials.
Puchi Puchi has already increased its recycled-material ratio to 98%, and converting the masterbatch itself into recycled material is considered essential to achieving a further increase in the recycling rate. This joint development project was pursued with Riken Vitamin, which has strengths in this field.
For Riken Vitamin, developing a masterbatch made with recycled materials was a first, and the company commercialized the product after overcoming challenges related to hygiene and quality stability. It plans to continue contributing to the promotion of the circular economy through products and technologies that help reduce environmental impact.
