The Nikkei Average was up approximately ¥140 from the previous day and was generally trading around ¥66,540. Although selling prevailed in the morning, increased buying on dips pushed the index higher. At 9:58 a.m., it had risen to around ¥67,691.84, with market movements reported from the first half of the trading session. The U.S. dollar was trading in the upper ¥153 range.
