HP announced the OmniBook 5, a low-cost laptop PC. Featuring a 14-inch OLED display, it starts at $699.99 (about ¥110,000), as HP positions it to compete with MacBook Neo.
MacBook Neo launched at $599 (¥99,800 in Japan), but its price later rose to $699 because of memory shortages and component supply constraints. In response, HP is positioning the OmniBook 5 as a strong low-cost contender. Price competition is intensifying in the market, alongside Dell’s XPS 13 and Lenovo’s IdeaPad Vibe.
The OmniBook 5 features a 14-inch 2K OLED display with a peak brightness of 300 nits. The base model comes with an Intel Core 5 315, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, while the higher-end configuration offers a Core 7 350, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. Its display is slightly larger than those of the MacBook Neo and MacBook Air.
The OmniBook 5 reportedly recorded up to 42 hours in local video playback tests, highlighting its longer battery life compared with the MacBook Neo’s 13 hours.
The thin and light ProBook 4 G2iS 14 AI PC was also announced. It can be configured with a 3K OLED display with a resolution of up to 2880×1800, up to 32GB of RAM and up to a 1TB SSD.
The OmniBook 5 is scheduled to become available for order in the US through HP’s official website and Best Buy during October. It will be offered in four colors: silver, blue, pink and green.
