Yokohama City has announced plans to open 2 “Books & Lounge” library hubs (provisional name) next spring, at Aobadai TOKYU Square South-1, Main Building 5th floor, and Kamiooka KEIKYU Department Store 6th floor.
Yokohama City has announced plans to develop 2 of the stay-and-read library hubs scheduled to open at 1 or 2 locations in each of the city’s 4 areas as “Books & Lounge” hubs (provisional name). Both will have an area of approximately 300 square metres, with design and construction to proceed during the current fiscal year and opening scheduled for next spring.
The city has stated that it plans to expand its library distribution hubs from the current 12 locations to approximately 40 by fiscal 2029. A further 8 locations are scheduled to open by next spring.
Of the new locations, 4 to 8 are planned as “Books & Lounge” hubs (provisional name), combining lending and returns with space for visitors to stay. In addition to the 2 locations announced this time, a site near Yokohama Station is scheduled to be announced during the current fiscal year.
Both locations are directly connected to stations, prioritising convenience for people to stop by while commuting, attending school or shopping. The city plans to permit visitors to bring in food and drinks, according to a city official.
