BOJ Governor Ueda Kazuo (植田和男) said that additional rate hikes would be discussed at every meeting, including the next meeting to be held on the 17th and 18th of this month. He expressed confidence in achieving the inflation target and said that the data have broadly been in line with the outlook.
At a press conference following the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting, BOJ Governor Ueda Kazuo (植田和男) said that additional rate hikes would be "carefully discussed at every meeting, including the next monetary policy meeting." Future policy decisions are expected to focus on the next meeting, to be held on the 17th and 18th. Markets are increasingly pricing in a rate hike at the next meeting, but Ueda Kazuo (植田和男) refrained from commenting directly on day-to-day market movements.
Ueda Kazuo (植田和男) said that underlying inflation was "fairly close to 2%" and expressed confidence in achieving the inflation target. Regarding the indicators released after the previous policy meeting in July, he said that "the data have been broadly in line with the outlook." He also said that the pace of future rate hikes would be considered in light of developments in the Middle East and foreign exchange markets.
