Nippon Electric Glass has developed BDX-3, a new ultra-thin cover glass product for space applications, and aims for volume production for satellites, with a view to adoption in space environments ranging from low Earth orbit through medium and high Earth orbits. Paid sample sales of the product have now begun.
Nippon Electric Glass announced that it had developed BDX-3, a new product under its Starveil brand of ultra-thin cover glass for space applications. The company plans to target volume production adoption in satellites and other applications.
BDX-3 is designed to suppress glass discoloration caused by radiation exposure in space and is said to offer higher ultraviolet shielding performance than BDX-2, an existing product under the same brand. It is intended for use from low Earth orbit through medium and high Earth orbits.
BDX-3 is currently being sold as a paid sample, and preparations are under way ahead of full-scale volume production adoption.
