The Nikkei 225 was trading about ¥700 higher in the morning session on the 30th. Reports said the upside was being weighed down by selling from investors waiting to sell into a rebound after the initial buying ran its course, while AI and semiconductor-related stocks led the buying following moves in the U.S. market.
The Nikkei 225 was trading about ¥700 above the previous day's level in the morning session on the 30th, reaching approximately ¥66,518.98 at 9:30 a.m. While the Dow and Nasdaq fell in the U.S. market, SOX rebounded, prompting buying in Tokyo AI and semiconductor-related stocks on the back of SOX's rise.
By sector, 24 of 33 sectors rose. Shipping stocks Nippon Yusen and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, and nonferrous metal stocks Sumitomo Electric Industries and Fujikura surged. Metal products, information and communications, and chemicals also traded firmly. Fisheries, agriculture and forestry, and services stocks were relatively weak.
As of 10:00 a.m. in the foreign exchange market, USD/JPY was in the lower ¥157 range and EUR/JPY was in the lower ¥178 range.
Nikkei 225 futures in Chicago were trading around ¥470 above the previous day's settlement level, and expectations remained that selling by investors waiting to sell into a rebound after the initial buying in Tokyo ran its course would cap the upside.
