The Nikkei fell for a fifth straight session in Tokyo, closing at ¥67,744. AI-related stocks struggled following ASML's results, while bank stocks broadly fell following results from major US companies. Kioxia set another post-stock-split low.
In Tokyo trading on the 14th, the Nikkei fell for a fifth straight session, closing ¥33 lower than the previous day at ¥67,744. It rose temporarily in the morning on renewed buying of AI-related stocks, but momentum in those stocks faded in the afternoon following ASML Holding's results, and selling spread as the day's gains were erased.
After ASML released its results, the broader market weakened as gains in AI-related stocks slowed, and the Nikkei at times fell into negative territory toward the close. The index briefly approached the ¥67,500 level, but periods of widening losses were limited.
Bank stocks broadly declined under the influence of the US market following earnings releases. Results from major banks, including US-based JPMorgan Chase, deteriorated sentiment toward the financial sector.
Kioxia set new lows on consecutive days even after the stock split. The shares continued to set lows without the split's effect being reflected in the price.
