Renesas has begun mass production of the RX74M and RX74N, the first products in the RX family to use a 22nm process and MRAM. An RXv3e core operating at up to 600MHz and large-capacity memory enhance real-time performance and reliability, while industrial networking functions are also integrated.
The RX74M and RX74N are the first products in the RX family to use a 22nm process. They feature an RXv3e core operating at up to 600MHz and 1MB of MRAM. They also include 256KB of TCM accessible by the CPU with no wait states and 1.5MB of SRAM, providing stable real-time performance even for processing involving frequent interrupts and branches.
The RX74M integrates an EtherCAT slave controller, a TSN-capable gigabit Ethernet switch, and CAN-FD on a single chip. It supports major industrial networks, including EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET, with a single device. TSN support enables deterministic communications, and the device can also be used in redundant network configurations.
The RX74M and RX74N strengthen hardware-based security functions and incorporate ProtectZone in the RXv3e core. Security functions designed for future requirements, including RSIP public-key cryptography extensions and authenticated encryption, can be implemented on the microcontroller alone.
Renesas plans to work with ecosystem partners to enhance development efficiency through Codewerk, RT-Labs, IAR, eForce, Zephyr, and others. Information on evaluation boards, the start of mass production, and future application solutions is also being provided.
