Nippon Zeon has begun construction of a multi-product research and prototyping facility in an existing building at Kawasaki Innovation Frontier Port, with operations scheduled to begin in January 2028. A safety prayer ceremony was held on 16 October. The facility is intended to accelerate scale-up from research and development to mass production.
Nippon Zeon announced that it would begin construction of a multi-product research and prototyping facility in an existing building at Kawasaki Innovation Frontier Port. A safety prayer ceremony had already been held on the same day, and operations are scheduled to begin in January 2028. The facility is located in the port’s Integrated Development Center area.
The facility is designed to incorporate processes for manufacturing high-value-added products, including polymerisation, hydrogenation, coagulation and drying, with the aim of accelerating the production of medium-volume samples from the laboratory stage and bringing mass production forward. It will also offer the flexibility to accommodate various operating conditions.
Zeon plans to use the facility for both existing and new businesses. As a Polymer Design Company, it also plans to position the facility as a base for developing and deploying new technologies and as a foothold for transferring technologies inside and outside the company. In the future, it will consider the possibility of accepting prototyping work from external parties.
Kawasaki Innovation Frontier Port is the name of the site encompassing the adjacent Kawasaki Plant and Integrated Development Center. It forms part of an initiative to strengthen the site’s function as a technology communications hub.
