Hankyu Hanshin Holdings has disclosed plans to redevelop Hankyu Village in the Umeda area for the first time in half a century. Demolition work on the Osaka Shin Hankyu Hotel is under way, and surrounding facilities are expected to be reorganized with an opening from 2030 onward in view.
A large-scale redevelopment plan including Hankyu Village in Osaka's Umeda district has been covered since 2018. Hankyu Hanshin Holdings is considering rebuilding surrounding commercial facilities and office buildings through Hankyu Railway and Hankyu Hanshin Properties. The opening is expected from 2030 onward, and a long-term concept has been proposed to connect the area with the vicinity of JR Osaka Station to the west via an elevated deck.
The former Osaka Shin Hankyu Hotel, where demolition work is under way, has 11 above-ground floors, a 3-story rooftop structure, 3 basement floors, and a total floor area of approximately 44,000 m². The work is scheduled to run from mid-December 2025 through autumn 2028, with Takenaka Corporation as the construction contractor. As of 27 October 2026, demolition was progressing with 3 tower cranes.
The demolition progress has been made public in multiple photographs, including views from the buffet restaurant on the 21st floor of Osaka Institute of Technology's Umeda Campus. It has also been pointed out that the cluster of miscellaneous buildings between the hotels is not part of this redevelopment.
