The play is set in America in the late 1940s and portrays the impact of the Red Scare during the McCarthy era on the film industry. It unfolds as a confined-room drama in which Hollywood filmmakers are questioned by government commissioners and forced to choose between informing on their colleagues and losing their jobs.
