Nippon Travel Agency has outlined plans to incorporate community support activities into experience tours and corporate training, against the backdrop of a consortium supporting the implementation of the Hometown Resident Registration System. It also presented specific proposals, including the creation of locally accessible programs and the expansion of local coupons.
The Hometown Resident Support Consortium was established to create a mechanism that directly supports local consumption and production, and aims to revitalize local communities through the participation of municipalities and companies. Details of the consortium's activities were explained at the Mayors' Summit 2026 LG30.
Nippon Travel Agency plans to draw on its comprehensive capabilities as a travel company, initially developing introductory community support activities centered on experience tours to encourage visits to local areas and promote registration with the Hometown Resident Registration System. Specifically, it will establish arrangements for hosting visitors, including accommodation and experiences, and develop, package and sell programs designed to create new participants in community support activities.
One proposal would attach the right to participate in community support activities to local travel coupons offered as hometown tax donation rewards. The coupons would be valid for 5 years and cover round-trip transportation costs, enabling them to be used for long-term travel planning. A staffed support system will also be established.
Efforts are also under way to attract cross-border corporate training programs in which participants learn about local issues, and to link community support activities with GREEN JOURNEY for SCHOOL, an educational program for middle and high school students, thereby creating an ongoing relationship between participants and local communities. The consortium also reported on arrangements to host inspection tours and the implementation of an inspection tour of municipalities selected for model projects in Iizuna, Nagano Prefecture.
In addition to Nippon Travel Agency, the Hometown Resident Support Consortium includes Rakuten Group, Timee, おてつたび and LIFULL. It has established 10 solution areas, including support for community support activities for municipalities and the development and promotion of travel products.
