Japan is participating for the first time as guest of honor at the international fair that opened in Thessaloniki, northern Greece. More than 20 companies are exhibiting at the Japan Pavilion, themed around “Takumi,” while the Greek prime minister said he welcomed expanded investment opportunities.
The Thessaloniki International Fair opened on the 5th, underscoring its position as one of the country's largest business events. The fair is being held for the 90th time this year and runs through the 13th. Japan is participating for the first time as guest of honor, a move that diplomatic sources view as part of efforts to reduce dependence on China.
The Japan Pavilion is centered on the theme of “Takumi,” or craftsmanship, and more than 20 companies are exhibiting. The exhibition is intended to promote the overseas expansion of Japanese technologies and products.
Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis indicated at the pavilion's opening ceremony that he welcomed investment from Japan and the Far East. His remarks are viewed as part of efforts to strengthen ties as Greece steps up its policy of avoiding dependence on China following the debt crisis.
