Research by ニッピ confirmed that, after ingestion of jellyfish-derived collagen peptides, the bioactive peptide Gly-3Hyp-4Hyp is absorbed into the bloodstream at high concentrations and transferred efficiently to skin tissue.
Jellyfish collagen peptides were prepared by enzymatic digestion and compared with bovine-derived peptides. The jellyfish-derived peptides were found to contain more than 15 times as much Gly-3Hyp-4Hyp.
In a human absorption study, the amount of Gly-3Hyp-4Hyp absorbed into the bloodstream reached approximately 8 times that of the bovine-derived peptides. Because it remained in the bloodstream for longer, its total absorption was estimated to exceed that of Pro-Hyp.
In a skin-transfer study using mice, Gly-3Hyp-4Hyp accumulated in skin tissue at high concentrations after administration of jellyfish collagen peptides, with approximately 19 times the accumulation observed with bovine-derived peptides. The difference was even greater in comparison with Pro-Hyp.
These findings were published online in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, suggesting the potential of Gly-3Hyp-4Hyp as a new bioactive component of jellyfish-derived collagen peptides.
