The Japanese and Mongolian leaders met at the Prime Minister’s Office and agreed to provide approximately ¥158.3 billion in yen loans to fund the expansion of Chinggis Khaan International Airport. They also confirmed cooperation in new fields such as security and AI, and announced plans to strengthen involvement in the “Power Asia” cooperation framework, including oil stockpiling.
Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae (高市 早苗) met with Mongolian Prime Minister Ochirbal (オチラル), and the two governments agreed to cooperate in new fields such as security and artificial intelligence. At Mongolia’s request, Japan also agreed to provide approximately ¥158.3 billion in yen loans to support the expansion of Chinggis Khaan International Airport.
The two leaders confirmed their agreement to cooperate through “Power Asia,” an Asian energy cooperation framework, in areas including oil stockpiling and renewable energy. They also agreed to launch negotiations early toward concluding a tax treaty.
Although Mongolia is influenced by China and Russia, it regards Japan and the United States as important “third neighbours,” and visits by senior government officials, including Foreign Minister Motegi (茂木), have taken place in succession. Prime Minister Takaichi also expressed appreciation for Mongolia’s cooperation on the issue of North Korea’s abductions of Japanese citizens.
