Sumitomo Chemical announced that it had obtained a validation statement from TÜV SÜD, an independent third party, for CFP-TOMO® (v3.2), its product carbon footprint calculation tool. The tool’s basic principles and quantification methods for calculating CFPs on a Cradle to Gate basis were confirmed to comply with the requirements of international standards and other guidelines.
Sumitomo Chemical announced that it had obtained a validation statement for CFP-TOMO® (v3.2) from TÜV SÜD. The validation covered the Cradle to Gate scope and involved an independent third-party assessment of calculations from raw material extraction through product shipment.
The validation found that CFP-TOMO®’s basic principles and quantification methods comply with ISO 14067:2018, ISO 14040:2006, ISO 14044:2006, the Japan Chemical Industry Association’s CFP Guidelines, and TfS requirements.
As efforts continue toward a carbon-neutral society, there is a growing need to visualize GHG emissions across the entire supply chain and improve the reliability and comparability of CFP information. The validation is expected to improve transparency in the CFP calculation process.
CFP-TOMO® is provided free of charge for calculating product CFPs for Sumitomo Chemical and its group companies, while paid licenses subject to certain conditions are also available for other companies. Its use is primarily envisaged within the major chemical industry.
