The Nikkei Volatility Index (Nikkei VI) rose sharply from the previous day to 29.20. While the Tokyo market rebounded sharply against a backdrop of gains in US stocks, elevated long-term interest rates and the Nikkei VI's reaction were in focus.
On the 6th, the Nikkei VI rose sharply to 29.20, up 6.33 from the previous day, a gain of 27.68%. It traded at a high of 29.20 and a low of 28.35.
The Tokyo market also rose sharply today, following gains in the major indices in yesterday's US stock market. Nikkei 225 futures have risen ¥4,520 over the past five days, prompting awareness of short-term overheating.
The fact that long-term interest rates have remained elevated in Japan and overseas also remained a factor of concern. The Nikkei VI traded well above yesterday's level today, partly reflecting the pullback in its gain at yesterday's close.
