At its results briefing for the second quarter of the fiscal year ending January 2027, Tri Chemical Laboratories reported that demand for semiconductor materials exceeded expectations, driving record-high interim results. Revenue was ¥14.7 billion, up 18.8% year on year, and full-year revenue guidance was raised to ¥29.5 billion.
Demand for semiconductor materials was strong, led particularly by demand for High-k materials for DRAM in China and demand in Taiwan. Revenue was ¥14.7 billion, approximately ¥1 billion above the initial plan, while operating profit was ¥3.8 billion. Both exceeded the previous year's interim results and reached record highs. The assumed exchange rate was revised to ¥155 per dollar, and the company indicated that it would bring forward capacity expansion investments in response to customers bringing forward their capital expenditures. The Chinese joint venture アドトリケム is targeting the start of mass production in early 2028, as the company continues to expand its overseas operations.
By region, sales in China and Taiwan grew substantially, while sales to Japan declined due to difficulties procuring germanium materials and the suspension of sales of materials for optical fibers. By product application, High-k materials remained the largest pillar of the business, while growth in Metal materials and Other applications also contributed. However, negative factors in the Japanese market limited overall growth.
Full-year guidance was revised upward to revenue of ¥29.5 billion, operating profit of ¥7.45 billion, ordinary profit of ¥8.72 billion and net income of ¥6.57 billion. The assumed exchange rate was changed from ¥150 to ¥155 per dollar. The president emphasized that the company had reached a level close to that targeted for the second year of its medium-term plan and said it was considering bringing forward capital investments at the Minami-Alps Plant's First Manufacturing Building, Line 2, the Taiwan Plant and the Uenohara No. 2 Plant. The company is strengthening its production structure to meet local needs ahead of the planned start of mass production at アドトリケム in early 2028.
The medium-term management plan is scheduled to be updated in mid-March 2027. The outlook for the external environment indicates that demand for advanced semiconductors, led by AI, is expected to continue expanding.
