DJI has published a white paper on handheld cinematography technology, accompanied by the release of the original short film The Uncertain Existence of Her, shot with the Osmo Pocket 4P. The initiative demonstrates its aim of expanding professional visual expression with a compact device.
DJI has published a white paper on handheld cinematography technology and simultaneously released the short film The Uncertain Existence of Her, shot with the Osmo Pocket 4P. Dated 25 August 2026, the announcement sets out the company’s policy of providing high-quality visual expression with a device that fits in the palm of the hand as part of its mission.
The white paper presents equipment miniaturization as an expansion of creative freedom and positions the reduction of physical constraints in the filming process as its objective. It thereby demonstrates that pocket gimbal cameras can meet the requirements of professional production within today’s technology ecosystem.
The original short film The Uncertain Existence of Her was directed and shot by cinematographer Takimoto Mikiya (瀧本幹也). Set at the Iwami Ginzan silver mine in Shimane, it unfolds in the form of a road movie and was shot entirely with the Osmo Pocket 4P. Takimoto says that the reduced weight and greater freedom of movement afforded by the equipment significantly improved movement on set and the dynamics of the production.
Features of the Osmo Pocket 4P include a 60mm medium-telephoto lens, a 17-stop dynamic range enabled by LOFIC technology, and the D-Log 2 color profile. The camera is highlighted as offering improved tonal reproduction from highlights through shadows and professional-quality video despite its compact size.
