Kobe Steel is considering overseas M&A to increase production of gas compressors for energy companies. With Indian companies in view, it indicated that it plans to consider expanding its business locally.
Director Kimoto Kazuhiko (木本和彦), who is in charge of finance, told The Nikkei that the company “would like to increase overseas production, focusing on compressors with a competitive edge,” and expressed its intention to consider options including M&A with local companies.
The company is also considering expanding overseas production to capture growing demand related to hydrogen and ammonia, amid rising domestic manufacturing costs due to the weaker yen and other factors.
