Osaka Metropolitan University and Kyoritsu Maintenance will establish the international exchange residence OMU I-Dorm Sugimoto on the grounds of Osaka Metropolitan University’s Sugimoto Campus under their partnership, with the opening scheduled for April 2027. They also announced plans to establish Dormy Morinomiya (provisional name) in 2028. An outline of the opening ceremony at the Morinomiya Campus was published on 24 August 2026.
OMU I-Dorm Sugimoto is designed as a hub supporting the internationalization of Osaka Metropolitan University, with shared facilities including a connection hub, coworking space, dining room and shared kitchen. Rooms are fully furnished and equipped with appliances and Wi-Fi, providing a living environment designed to simplify the move-in process. A live-in dormitory manager couple, an automatic-lock entrance and security cameras will help ensure safety.
The residence will have 136 rooms, with monthly rent starting at ¥67,000, excluding initial costs, meals, management fees and utilities. Access is approximately a 9-minute walk from Sugimotocho Station on the JR Hanwa Line. Its location within the Sugimoto Campus and shared facilities including a dining room, multipurpose room and prayer room are cited as key features.
The project reflects Osaka Metropolitan University’s efforts to expand its acceptance of international students and promote international exchange. It is intended to create a residential and交流 environment supporting the university’s future vision, including the planned establishment of the College of Creative Studies in fiscal 2029.
