The company accepted 104 teachers at 5 steelworks and 7 manufacturing sites nationwide, an increase of 23 from the previous fiscal year. This was the largest number accepted by a single company or organization.
The training was conducted by the Keizai Koho Center to promote dialogue between the education and business communities. It was designed to help teachers understand Nippon Steel's business overview, management policies, human resources development, environmental initiatives and CSR. The program included tours of manufacturing operations, explanations of human resources development and occupational health and safety policies, safety training using virtual reality, and presentations on the advantages of steel throughout its lifecycle, including environmental initiatives and recycling.
The program was held on multiple dates from 27 July to 21 August, with teachers from boards of education accepted at sites in each region, including the Kyushu, Setouchi, Kansai and East Japan steelworks. Teachers from boards of education participated in each region, with the number accepted varying by region.
Nippon Steel has continued its initiative to deepen practical understanding of educational settings by accepting teachers for 29 years. The program is intended to deepen their understanding of the company's environmental initiatives and steel's lifecycle.
