President Donald Trump called on all member states to withdraw from the ICC at the United Nations General Assembly and said he would categorically reject an international framework for AI development. He also reportedly made hard-line remarks concerning sanctions against ICC officials and Iran.
In his general debate speech at the United Nations General Assembly, President Donald Trump criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC) as “an evil organization” and called on all member states to withdraw. He also opposed efforts to establish an international framework regulating AI development.
The Trump administration indicated that it plans to designate the ICC president and others for sanctions, and emphasized its intention to consider sanctions against the ICC itself. This made clear the difference between Japan’s and the United States’ positions on the ICC.
On AI, Trump claimed that the United States is leading China and said he believed there would be a winner in the race for superintelligence. Ensuring AI safety is one of the main issues on the agenda at the United Nations General Assembly.
