Watami announced that it had obtained ministerial certification under the Food Recycling Law for its food recycling loop plan, under which food waste is recycled into chicken feed and the eggs produced are used in its chilled boxed meals. The system for recycling the materials was certified as an integrated operation following a government review conducted in collaboration with the companies involved.
Watami announced on 8 October that it had obtained ministerial certification under the Food Recycling Law for its recycling business plan, the Food Recycling Loop. The company has established a system in which food waste from its prepared-foods factory is recycled into chicken feed, and the chicken eggs produced are used in its chilled boxed meals.
The Food Recycling Loop is a food-resource circulation system that covers the recycling of food waste through to the use of agricultural, livestock and fishery products produced through that process. Government review and certification clarify the roles of the businesses involved and their collaboration.
Under this initiative, 4 companies will collaborate on the process from converting food waste into feed through to processing and using the chicken eggs, with the aim of ensuring stable and reliable operation of the recycling system.
