The latest major version of the optical thin-film design software TFCalc, “TFCalc V5.0,” will be available from 27 October 2026. Its analytical capabilities and ease of use will be improved through a major UI overhaul and the addition of 3D plotting, among other enhancements.
The new version of the optical thin-film design software “TFCalc,” “TFCalc V5.0,” will be available from 27 October 2026. It delivers significant functional enhancements and a UI overhaul from the previous V3.6, while improving ease of use without compromising compatibility with existing calculation algorithms.
New specifications include a multi-document interface, an Excel-style tabular UI and Japanese-language UI support for the domestic market. These features enable users to view multiple designs simultaneously and edit, copy and paste spreadsheet data using a consistent interface.
Analysis capabilities include enhanced 2D plotting and a newly added 3D plotting function. Users can survey a 3D surface of wavelength × angle of incidence × characteristic value on a single screen, while the color display and material filtering functions have also been revamped.
For performance, the software has fully migrated to a 64-bit architecture and introduces a choice between speed-priority and accuracy-priority calculation modes. The announcement also covers a newly established academic price and compatibility for coexistence with and loading of existing files.
For pricing, new purchases cost ¥320,000 excluding tax. The academic price is available to universities, colleges of technology and public research institutions, supporting wider adoption by educational institutions.
