ブックオフコーポレーション, a subsidiary of ブックオフグループホールディングス, launched a donation program in cooperation with Adachi Ward using the Kimochi to. service. Under the program, when people send unwanted books, CDs and other items, the purchase value is donated to social causes, and implementation began on 1 September. Adachi Ward is the first municipality in Tokyo to accept participation in the program.
To participate, users apply through Adachi Ward’s support program webpage, pack their unwanted items and hand them over when they are collected. BOOKOFF then assesses the items and makes a donation on the user’s behalf. The donations are used through the Adachi Children’s Future Support Fund.
The fund provides grants to nonprofits and other organizations supporting children’s cafeterias, educational support and experiential activities. During the summer, regional support has been expanded through work experience programs, various experiential courses and free use of ward facilities.
In addition, “Osekkai Boxes” for collecting unwanted items were installed at 20 locations in Adachi Ward and 3 Regional Support Consultation Plazas. By donating the purchase value of collected items to the fund, the initiative promotes the effective use of resources and contributes to the local community.
