KYOKUYO Akitsu Refrigerated Warehouse’s Tokyo facility introduced MOVO Berth. To address the problem of trucks without early-morning inbound orders occupying the docks, the facility enabled trucks to be called in line with the pace of warehouse operations.
At the Tokyo facility, trucks without inbound orders were occupying the docks first thing in the morning, causing delays to operations. The facility therefore considered introducing MOVO Berth. After implementation, based on whether inbound orders had been received and on the status of operations, the dock assignment rules were changed from “do not assign a dock to trucks without inbound orders” to “do not keep trucks waiting to depart until preparations for unloading are complete,” enabling trucks to be called in line with the pace of warehouse operations.
At the time of implementation, internal operating rules were organized to suit on-site operations, and preparations were made to collect and use reception data. This enabled the facility to move from paper reception logs to digital reception, establish a system in which anyone could participate in truck-calling operations, and advance efforts to build a foundation for using the data.
The effects after implementation included fewer waiting trucks and smoother warehouse operations. An environment was created in which information on truck calls and the start and completion of operations could be monitored in real time on site. Communication among employees became more active, reliance on individual know-how was reduced, and new members were able to begin work quickly.
The facility also indicated its intention to continue improving operations in stages, including by considering expanded use of MOVO Berth’s functions, such as file attachments and reservations.
