INPEX announced that it had received a declaration identifying the GHG storage formation for its Bonaparte CCS Project in Australia. It also began a demonstration test of Ca-Looping with Sumitomo Osaka Cement.
INPEX has received a declaration identifying the GHG storage formation for a CCS project targeting the Bonaparte sedimentary basin offshore from Darwin, in Australia's Northern Territory. Its local subsidiary, INPEX Browse E&P Pty Ltd, serves as the operator.
On 19 October, the company jointly began a demonstration test with Sumitomo Osaka Cement of a calcium recycling technology called Ca-Looping. The project aims to establish a process for capturing CO2 emissions from large ships and other sources, converting the CO2 into calcium carbonate, and storing it underground.
The Bonaparte CCS Project is under development in the G-7-AP block offshore from Darwin, Australia, and the Australian government issued a declaration identifying the storage formation in October 2026. The project is planned to begin CO2 injection in the early 2030s.
