Seibu Railway's 144 20000 series cars will return to Hitachi Kasado Works for refurbishment. Following the refurbishment, they are scheduled to enter service in stages from spring 2028.
Seibu Railway and Hitachi, Ltd. announced plans to refurbish 144 cars from Seibu Railway's 20000 series and begin putting them into service in stages from spring 2028. The 20000 series cars were manufactured at Hitachi's Kasado Works, and will return there for refurbishment.
The refurbishment will draw on Hitachi's design and manufacturing expertise, with major equipment updated and the exterior and interior designs renewed. The project aims to improve the cars' performance and comfort while retaining the concept on which they were originally introduced.
The refurbishment by Hitachi is expected to shorten the project timeline while further improving quality, with the manufacturer’s expertise used to enhance safety and comfort. The cars' return to their place of manufacture is positioned as part of a renewal project based on their many years of service.
