Koikeya will make a full-scale entry into the molded potato products market. The company announced plans to launch “Kin no Potato,” made using a new production method developed over 10 years, with advance sales beginning on 21 September and distribution expanding from 5 October. The product will initially be available only in Tokyo and six prefectures.
Koikeya will make a full-scale entry into the molded potato category, positioning it as an innovation following “Pride Potato” in the snack market. The new product “Kin no Potato” was completed after a lengthy development period and is being positioned as offering a taste close to that of freshly fried potatoes.
The product is a premium molded potato stick made with 100% mashed Japanese potatoes, designed to recreate the addictive quality of freshly fried French fries served at restaurants.
For the time being, sales will be limited to Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Ibaraki, Tochigi and Gunma. Two varieties will be offered: Addictive Salt and Classic Seaweed Salt.
Sales will begin at convenience stores on 21 September, with distribution expanding to supermarkets and other outlets from 5 October. The product is also scheduled to be available in limited quantities through the online shop.
