Poor saury catches this autumn are hitting the food-service sector. OOTOYA Holdings is restricting charcoal-grilled fresh saury to approximately 200 stores and limiting sales. Some supermarkets have also seen procurement volumes fall 70% year on year.
The poor saury catches this autumn have made procurement more difficult for food-service companies. OOTOYA Holdings, a subsidiary of COLOWIDE CO., LTD., has limited the stores selling its “charcoal-grilled fresh saury” to approximately 60% of its total, or about 200 stores.
OOTOYA is limiting the stores that offer its set meal featuring locally sourced saury delivered directly from the production area, “charcoal-grilled fresh saury.” The set meal is priced at ¥1,450.
Retail procurement volumes have also declined amid the poor catches, with some supermarkets reporting procurement volumes approximately 70% below the same period a year earlier.
As uncertainty over catch volumes continues, companies are being forced to review their procurement and sales methods.
